Cargo Securing Manual
The manual is prepared in accordance with the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS) Chapters VI, VII and the Code of Safe Practice for Cargo Stowage and Securing, cargo units, including containers shall be stowed and secured throughout the voyage.
Cargo Securing Manuals are required to be carried on all ships to which the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea, 1974 (SOLAS), as amended, the IMO’s MSC/Circ. 1026 (Amendments to the code of safe practice for cargo stowage and securing – CSS Code) and the MSC.1/Circ. 1353 (revised guidelines for the preparation of the Cargo Securing Manual) apply, and to cargo ships of less than 500 tons gross tonnage, except those engaged solely in the carriage of bulk cargoes, either solid or liquid (Solid bulk cargoes are to be stowed in accordance with the IMO Code of Safe Practice for Solid Bulk Cargoes). The manual is also required on passenger ships which may also carry cargo, as well as on specialized vessels such as pipe and cable layers, and offshore supply vessels.
